Miss Virginia Association of Fairs

McKenna KendrickThe Virginia Association of Fairs would like to present the 2012 Miss Virginia Association of Fairs McKenna Custer Kendrick.  McKenna grew up with her mom and grandparents in Front Royal, VA.  She attended A.S. Rhodes Elementary School in Front Royal, VA.  Upon entering middle school McKenna transferred to R. E. Aylor Middle School in Stephens City where her mother is a teacher.  While in middle school McKenna was extremely active in her school.  She was a cheerleader, member of the select chorus, had lead roles in three musical productions, manager of the volleyball team, Virginia state officer for FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America).  She was selected by her peers “Most Outgoing 8th Grade Girl” and selected by her teachers as the “8th grade outstanding female student”.  McKenna and her mother moved to Frederick County so that she could continue her education in Frederick County and attend Sherando High School in Stephens City, VA.  She will graduate in 2013 with an Advanced Studies Diploma. She is looking forward to attending college in the south.  She loves southern hospitality.

McKenna is very active in her school community as well as the Northern Shenandoah Valley area.  She has received numerous awards throughout her high school career thus far.  McKenna is a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the award winning Sherando Varsity Cheerleading squad.  She has been the recipient of Academic Awards, Best All-Around cheerleader at Sherando High School, Virginia High School League Academic Athlete Award, freshman and sophomore class officer, and Local and Regional Science Fair winner.  McKenna also won the Virginia Lakes and Watershed Award in 2011.  She participates in the GIS program (Gifted Independent Study) a mentorship with Shenandoah University and Channel 3 in Winchester.  She enjoys public speaking and has spoken to the Rotary Club and Top of VA Builders Association about the benefits of community service involvement.  McKenna over the years has volunteered at Harmony Place a local shelter for abused women and children. Along with her mother she has donated her time to the Concern Hot Line Fish Fry to benefit a local hotline that helps young people as well as adults cope with abuse, addiction and suicide.  She modeled in a benefit fashion show for a local domestic violence shelter and participated in the annual candle light vigil for the prevention of domestic violence.

Over the past few years she has been involved the Frederick County Fair by entering many homemade craft items and photography.  She was Jr. Miss Frederick County fair in 2009.  She was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the tiny, preteen and junior teen pageants.  She participated in this year’s pig scramble.  She was the first Queen in 20 years to actually capture a pig.   It was truly something she will never forget.  She also enjoyed helping with turtle races, bubble blowing contest and handing out ribbons to livestock fair winners.  McKenna thinks the best part of being the local fair queen is meeting the little girls that get so excited when they see a tall girl in a crown.  She truly wants to be a good role model for young girls in her community and now across the state of Virginia.

Even with McKenna’s busy lifestyle of being a full time high school student, promoting her platform, and working as a hostess at Chinatown Restaurant in Winchester she finds plenty of time to have fun.  She is always spending time with friends and family either shopping or playing Just Dance for the Wii, watching her favorite television shows, or jamming out to her favorite music whether it be the pop hits from the 90’s or the new country and pop songs of today, she loves to sing and have a good time.  McKenna and her grandmother enjoy playing board games and shopping together.  She also enjoys target shooting with her grandfather, and staying up late with her girlfriends.
